Breakfast at the Banquet of Life: I've Been Tagged

Breakfast at the Banquet of Life: I've Been Tagged

I've been tagged by SewSweetSugar.

So. . . Here are 16 random things about myself :

1. I am currently in the second stanza of trying to memorize Poe’s “The Raven."

2. The first story I remember loving is Albert Bigelow Paine’s "Christmas at the Hollow Tree Inn; the first picture I remember loving was an illustration in a children’s songbook of the Garden of Eden.

3. My angelic husband and I were married in 1969 following a meeting in the introductory biology course at the University of Texas at El Paso.

4. We have four fabulous children, Matt (Matthew), Tree (Teresa), Greg (Gregory), and Nic (Nicole), all now adults who I all taught to read independently before they started kindergarten.

5. We have three female dogs (two rescues), a male polydactyl cat, a very large white goldfish native to our pond, and innumerable frogs (whose ancestors were imported via the internet years ago).

6. A regret: I wish I had gotten my master’s degree in English and American literature instead of in education.

7. In eighth grade I found one of my lifelong fascinations: the history of the English language, and in fact of all languages.

8. I never had much interest in photography until I read about flickr in Newsweek magazine and was encouraged to try it by relatives.

19. Cesar Millan’s TV show “The Dog Whisperer” (introduced to me by my son Matt) and his books on calm, assertive life with dogs and the universe continue to be an influence for the better on me.

10. Some of my earliest fascinations were with Henry VIII of England and his wives, the painter Rembrandt, and the psychologist Carl Jung.

11. Before retiring, I loved teaching my students to read, enjoy literature, research, and write.

12. When I was in the fourth grade myself, my wonderful teacher, Mrs. Anderson, had a small classroom library where I met George MacDonald’s At the Back of the North Wind.

13. As a teacher myself, I wanted to recreate that experience for my students, and I had a very large classroom “book nook” of fiction and non-fiction that my students shared.

14. Religion and various “new age” ideas are a lifelong fascination of mine, which may explain why one of my favorite songs is Paul McCartney’s “At the End of the End.”

15. A favorite Bible verse: "This is the day the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it!" -- Psalm 118:24

16. My most deeply felt metaphor for life is dancing with the universe.

Encourages Eating Through Fun Learning
Featuring educational, story-telling designs, the Toddler Small Bowl will keep your child engaged during meals. Lunchtime will become learning time with the help of the bowl's animal characters--a rabbit, mouse, and bird--as well as the bowl's bright, contrasting colors and numbered rim that teaches counting.
Easy-Scoop Sides Ideal for Self-Feeding
Softly contoured, easy-scoop sides help children capture food and successfully move it from bowl to mouth, supporting them in the process of self-feeding and making it easier to scoop food onto a spoon or fork.
Anti-Slip Base Prevents Spills
With a stabilizing, anti-slip base, the Toddler Small Bowl can withstand the adventurous eating of your toddler. The anti-slip base prevents spills, helping you and your child avoid some of the mess that comes with learning how to eat.
Small Size Ideal for First Meals or Snacks
The Toddler Small Bowl is ideal for a first feeding or for snack-size portions. At 1.57 inches deep and 5.51 inches in diameter, the Toddler Small Bowl is a manageable size for toddlers experiencing their first meals.
Contains 0% BPA
The Toddler Small Bowl is free of BPA to help protect your child. Bisphenol-A (BPA) is a synthetic estrogen used to harden polycarbonate plastics and epoxy resin. Long suspected to be harmful, recent studies have shown that BPA may have ill health effects. A major concern with BPA is that it might leach from plastic feeding utensils, baby bottles, pacifiers, sippy cups, and food containers into beverages and foods. To help protect your toddler from potentially dangerous hormones, it's best to choose products like the Toddler Small Bowl, which contains 0% BPA.
Dishwasher and Microwave Safe
Designed to be easy for children to use, the Toddler Small Bowl is also designed with the needs of parents in mind. It is dishwasher, sterilizer, and microwave safe for quick warming and easy cleaning.
